[c-nsp] 255 maximum active VCs

Here's from our config...
sh int atm1/1
...
 256 maximum active VCs, 1024 VCs per VP, 141 current VCCs
...

Looks like the same deal.

we have a related problem with 12.1(5)T15, but I'm not going to pony up 
to renew a service contract since we hope to upgrade to a different box 
sometime soon.

"atm vc-per-vp 1024" is what we do since some vcs exceed 256. It doesn't 
stay in the config for the atm interface. When we reboot (or if the 
cisco does it itself), we have to reenter the command, then reload the 
atm customer subinterfaces configuration. What a pain....
