[c-nsp] Console server trouble -> wrong pins on cable?

Hello colleagues,

I've managed to configure my CISCO1601R's serial port as async-port in a
teminal/console-server-mode. Attached to the port is a CAB-232FC (DCE
FEMALE)-cable and an adaptor from 25 to 9 pins (or something like that.).
This allows me to connect an ordinary pc's serial port to the 1601R and
login via the serial console.
For example Linux running mgetty works fine at 9600,8,N,1.

My PROBLEM is that I can't login to a let's say the serial port of a switch.
Is it necessary to change anything on the pins of the cable or can I treat
it as if it was an ordinary pc-serial-port that is being connected to a
switch?

Your help is being appreciated.

The config on my 1601R is:
line 1
 session-timeout 10
 location Zum-seriellen-Port
 exec-timeout 0 0
 timeout login response 15
 flush-at-activation
 session-limit 1
 login local
 modem InOut
 special-character-bits 8
 no exec
 transport preferred none
 transport input telnet
 transport output none
 telnet break-on-ip
 telnet ip-on-break
 stopbits 1

Thanks,
Gunther
