I guess it's as simple as "what can go wrong, goes wrong". though only 
haveing three 6509s I've seen Sups dying (even had two of four which 
where DOA) and broken chassis/backplanes (which was really annoying).

Conclusion: if I may run redundant configuration, I always will do!
