I can't speak with any certainty, but since NPE-G1 came out in 2002/2003 
and more recently the NPE-G2 was released, I'd think their intention is to 
phase out all of the slower processors as soon as it makes sense to do so.

As far as when support for the processor would disappear from the IOS code 
base, who knows :)  If Cisco follows their roadmap, NPE-400 support could 
disappear from the code base soon after the NPE-400 goes end-of-life - 5 
years after it goes end-of-sale.
