Hi,
We do not have this problem at the moment but in the following CCO
documentation:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/products/hw/switches/ps708/products_
tech_note09186a00804916e0.shtml#broadcaststorm
it mentions in the section "Utilities and Tools to Determine the Traffic
That Is Punted to the CPU" that if you were to see this, for example:
Router#show interface gigabitethernet 4/1
GigabitEthernet4/1 is up, line protocol is up (connected)
Hardware is C6k 1000Mb 802.3, address
...<output ommitted>...
L2 Switched: ucast: 0 pkt, 184954624 bytes - mcast: 1 pkt, 500 bytes
L3 in Switched: ucast: 2889916 pkt, 0 bytes - mcast: 0 pkt, 0 bytes
mcast
L3 out Switched: ucast: 0 pkt, 0 bytes mcast: 0 pkt, 0 bytes
The fact that there is a high counter on "L3 in Switched" indicates
traffic is being punted to the CPU.
Can someone explain to me why the output would indicate this on a L3
interface?
Also, output from one of our own L3 interfaces looks like this...
6509-01#sh int gigabitEthernet 1/2
GigabitEthernet1/2 is up, line protocol is up (connected)
Hardware is C6k 1000Mb 802.3, address is 0016.9ccf.cc00 (bia
0016.9ccf.cc00)
Description: Gig1/2 L3 interface
Internet address is 194.46.8.1/24
MTU 1500 bytes, BW 1000000 Kbit, DLY 10 usec,
reliability 255/255, txload 15/255, rxload 18/255
...<output ommitted>...
L2 Switched: ucast: 43637942 pkt, 3017504371 bytes - mcast: 17886513
pkt, 1562658037 bytes
L3 in Switched: ucast: 50180118121 pkt, 23480596614419 bytes - mcast:
0 pkt, 0 bytes mcast
L3 out Switched: ucast: 47444003163 pkt, 21802228703724 bytes mcast: 0
pkt, 0 bytes
Does this look 'healthy' and if so, why?
Thanks,
Mark
