[c-nsp] Cat6506 + sup/msfc2: native IOS refuses to boot

Has anyone else experinced the following? (Unfortunately, our Cisco
support provider has been unhelpful regarding this case, so far.)

We've got a Cat6506 with sup2/msfc running currently CatOS on SP and
IOS on RP. We tried to convert it to native (12.2(18)SXF6) but it
failed. The native IOS image is stored on a PCMCIA card in slot0 and
both SP and RP have 256 MB memory.

When I boot the SP from PCMCIA, it boots without any complaints

rommon 3 > boot disk0:s222-advipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF6.bin

Self extracting the image... [OK]
Self decompressing the image : ####...[OK]

and moves control to RP.

Now, when I issue the boot sup-disk0:NNN command on RP, the RP loads
the boot loader image stored on RP's bootflash, then it prints a few
empty lines on console and finally crashes. When the box crashes,
there is a crash dump generated on stored on SP's bootflash.

[RP's] rommon 1 > boot sup-disk0:s222-advipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF6.bin
Self decompressing the image : ############ [...] [OK]

RP doesn't even seem to try to download the software from SP (via
tftp).

I'm starting to supect that the ROMMON version on RP is too old and it
doesn't support disk0 or it doesn't know how to download so large
images as 12.2(18)SXF6 via tftp. These are only random guesses,
though.

Cheers,
