We have 4 ONS 15454s deployed on our campus backbone providing a SONET
ring between two of our key facilities and two gig-e data paths between
same, and they work with no problems for us. We don't have to touch them
very often, but I haven't heard of problems in environments where changes
are made more frequently.
The 15454 has been around for a long time and the ONS line has been in
Cisco's portfolio since they acquired Cerent in 1999.
I don't have experience with competing products, so I can't provide any
feedback on that.
