I tried pinging to 255.255.255.255 from windows and it says "Unknown host 255.255.255.255".

Is there any other solution other than using a sniffer.
Regards,

Sam Jacob

  howdy

do a x-over connection from u'r pc/laptop and do a ping to the all 1 broadcast

   ping -b 255.255.255.255 ( from a *nix) machine

you should be able to get a response back, this is on assumption that the pc will respond to a ping
  sent to the broadcast address

  regards

    Hi ,

I ve been asked this question by a colleague of mine.

Assume that you have a Standalone PC with an IP Address configured and you
have no access to this PC.

How do we find out the IP Address of this PC if you are allowed to use its
network interface and any cable of your choice (Straight or Cross Cable ).
