Perhaps people are confusing (or wishfully thinking) of the DS3 cables
and Y adapters for the MGX line. For example, the 8260 talks about
using DS3 Y-Adapter cables for redundancy between MGXs. Start at figure
5-2 at
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/products/hw/switches/ps1925/products_installation_guide_chapter09186a008007fc66.html

I don't know enough about the Y-adapter or the SMB cables it talks
about. I don't know if there is something in the MGX hardware that
"watches" the primary MGX for a failure state. That would be my guess.

One of my customers had to order the Y adapters from Cisco as a custom
build item. It took an outrageously long time to get them. At least 4
weeks if I recall correctly.
