Using L3 subinterfaces is the only way to support, for example, EoMPLS and 
has been available at least since SXE (that I have tried it - it may have 
been in late SXD's, but I've used those only briefly) ...

Still, VLAN space is global and not per-interface.

I'm talking about Sup720-3B*, of course.
