That's the way PIM (-sparse mode) works.
Directly connected sources get registered at the RP, so that if any client
in the network wants to listen to it, the RP knows where to send JOINs to.
If the source is further away, PIM sparse mode will normally not see the
traffic at all, unless a JOIN has been sent - and in that case, there is
no need to register, as the RP already knows the source.
I think the problem is the interaction of PIM DM and PIM SM - I would
not do that, but I don't have clear advice on how to do it, if unavoidable.
