Do you means EAPS/MRP?

Or do you mean ESRP/VSRP?

EAPS/MRP are not really comparable to xSTP

ESRP/VSRP are, and handle the layer3 failover as well, and yes they do 
indeed kick the tar out of xSTP and HSRP/GLBP/VRRP.
