There are 3 or 4 types of ROMMON available depending on how you look at
it. On the SUP there is SP (the switch processor) and RP (the MSFC), and
then for any CEF720 cards there is LP (linecard) ROMMON, but there are
seperate images of the same version for CFC or DFC daughtercards (all
current CEF720 cards must have one or the other).

The SUP SP code is listed in the Fw line of "show module" for the SUP
slot, and yes 8.4(2) is the latest.

The SUP RP code version is viewed as follows:

router#sh ver | inc Bootstrap
ROM: System Bootstrap, Version 12.2(17r)S4, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

The CEF720 LP code is displayed on the Fw line of "show module" for CEF720
slots, and the latest is 12.2(18r)S1. Non CEF720 cards seem to show
internal code versions of fw code that comes bundled with the IOS image
and is downloaded to the card at boot time automatically.

Upgrading rommon is a damned good idea, there are some rather nasty bugs
in earlier versions that can cause a system to crash and stay stuck in
rommon until you console in and kick in manually.
