Hi,

Sham links are used when there exists a backup link between the client sites
apart from MPLS VPN connectivity. By default any route learned by backup
link (again it should be in the same area like both site should be in area 1
etc.), will be intra-area and same route learned via MPLS VPN will be
inter-area. To avaid this situation you must implement sham-link. Now the
route learned by both via backup link and via MPLS VPN will be intra-area
routes. Now u can play with metric to find the desired path / route.

By default MPLS VPN backbone is superbackbone, and is considered as area 0.

Hi,

are there any recommendations for what method to use in a MPLS VPN with
OSPF to avoid the interarea over intra-area
routing problem with OSPF interconnected VPN Sites : Sham-Links or Area 0
?

Cheers

Anton
