Until spanning-tree needs to reconverge.

Seen it.  Not fun.  

You probably want at least 50% of your SP on reserve.  3550/3750
IOS has addressed prioritizing stp since we saw problems approx 2-3 
years ago, but I don't  know what an angry 6500 SP would do.
