Metro Ethernet is like standard Ethernet, except that it is designed
for Metro networks. Some key differences between metro ethernet and
regular ethernet:

1) A metro ethernet circuit may only be 20 km in a mSTP ring (Metro
Spanning Tree Protocol), or 30km if it's point-point.
2) Metro ethernet is only available in 100mbps full-duplex, and
1000mbps half-duplex.
3) Metro ethernet carrys it's vlan tag after the packets, thus making
it incompatible with regular ethernet.
4) If you are not using tagged frames, you can use an ME-E converter
(Metro Ethernet - Ethernet) which will transform the higher voltages
used in ME to regular Ethernet voltages, and vice-versa. Due to the
higher voltages in me, Plugging an ME circuit into a normal ethernet
switch will probably make the ethernet switch self-ignite.
5) Metro ethernet is only available in the Cisco MER 3890 Switch
(equipped with 37 100mbps full-duplex ports and 89 1000mbps-half duplex)

- --- End Of Joke---

Metro Ethernet is really just a term for the use of ethernet in a
"metro" network. It's not a separate standard, it's simply just a
marketing term. To make it simple, Metro Ethernet = Ethernet.
