Thanks for the input... my experience with Adtran in general hasn't been
very good - Cisco rarely lets us down..;)

Earlier, someone on this list pointed me at the Adtran TA900 line, for this
kind of thing.  I've used the TA908e with good results.
It's about $1700 for the box, which has two T1 for data and two
PRI/T1 for pbx/telco.   I haven't actually used the two T1, but
it's supposed to be able to do MLPPP.

I think this is a fair bit less expensive than the cisco you mapped out.
