Yes, that's a better idea.  A 10GE interface will wrap a 32-bit
counter in 3.43 seconds when fully utilized.

On the other hand, rollover won't be a problem with 64-bit counters
until 491Pb/s (491 million Gb/s), with a five-minute polling interval.
