I assume that "it" means "one of the other switches" here (and not the 6509).
Most likely you have more than 64 VLANs in VTP, which is more than many
of the smaller Cisco switches can handle. You should see something in the
switch log (configure "logging buffered", then do "show log" when it happens
next time).
But you do not want VTP anyway. See the cisco-nsp archives on why VTP is
a bad idea.
