It's true. We run LX over OM1. Of course it has a distance limitation; a
commonly quoted figure is 550 metres.
There are various gotchas which can be resolved using "conditioned
launch" fibre patch leads, but we haven't experience any issues. IIRC
they're only an issue on OM1/OM2. Having said that, we have links
running stably with LX over OM1 without mode-conditioned patch leads, so
YMMV.
