That's all up to you and your organization.

And about it being officially supported, it all depends on whether the 
receiver is specced by the support holder as 1300-1600nm, or whether 
they're specced more tightly. If indeed specced 1300-1600nm at both ends, 
I don't see what's unsupported in it.
