Some don't like the lack of granularity in the NUD base psuedo-FHRP ... It doesn't just get you FHR, but forces routers to send more RAs, etc.
Having said that, yes it works!

AFAIK, IPv6 has some built-in alternatives for HSRP. In most cases you
could use anycast or Neighbor Discovery (Router Advertisement, to be
precise).
