Hi,
The QoS SRND recommends that in order to provide a "good" data service
on links carrying both realtime traffic and data traffic that the realtime
traffic shouldn't exceed one third of the link capacity. However, the document
is very wooly on technical detail to back this up and from a quick product
search it appears many service providers are willing to provide up to 70% of
link capacity for Voice/Realtime traffic using Cisco gear.
I'm interested to know whether folks who have provisioned more than 1/3 of link
capacity to real time traffic have seen many real-world problems (with non-realtime
traffic) during congestion and if so what kind of problems they were ?
FWIW, the QoS will be applied primarily on E1 circuits and shaped ethernet
circuits from 5Mb/s to 100Mb/s and the CPE will be 1841/2811/3825/3845.
Cheers,
John
