[c-nsp] FWSM traffic distribution across internal etherchannel

No the command changes the algorithm for all port channels configured in the chassis. I believe the fwsm portchannel is 278 ....at least it is on my two. If you have other etherchannels configured in the chassis the algorithm is changed for those as well...the change is global.

Wouldn't that only affect traffic from the 6500 to the FWSM?

You have the same options that you normally do with all other etherchannels. Use the following command to change the hashing algorithm.

Keep in mind this affects all etherchannel in the chassis.

Router(config)# port-channel load-balance {dst-ip | dst-mac | dst-port | src-dst-ip |
src-dst-mac | src-dst-port | src-ip | src-mac | src-port}

dst-ip—Load distribution on the destination IP address
dst-mac—Load distribution on the destination MAC address
src-dst-ip—Load distribution on the source XOR destination IP address
src-dst-mac—Load distribution on the source XOR destination MAC address
src-ip—Load distribution on the source IP address
src-mac—Load distribution on the source MAC address
src-port—Load distribution on the source port
dst-port—Load distribution on the destination port
src-dst-port—Load distribution on the source XOR destination port

Subject: [c-nsp] FWSM traffic distribution across internal etherchannel

I have a FWSM running 2.3(4)11 in slot 4 of a 6509. I have noticed that I am
getting unequal traffic distribution on the links that make up the ether
channel bundle between the FWSM and 6509.

Here is a snapshot of the traffic distribution

4/1 in 28.99mbps out 458.10mbps
4/2 in 12.37mbps out 248.31mbps
4/3 in 960.86mbps out 294.95mbps
4/4 in 34.07mbps out 505.22mbps
4/5 in 15.08mbps out 243.10mbps
4/6 in 950.63mbps out 262.68mbps

In is traffic from the FWSM to the switch and out is traffic from the switch
to the FWSM.

Is this normal operation, or is there a way to distribute the traffic from
the FWSM to the switch more evenly?
