Have you considered the monumental task of making NX-OS or XR work with
older linecards?  Or even IOS-XE?

This is part of the problem with the C6500.  It needs to maintain backwards
compatibility with 12-15 years worth of line cards.  This is difficult and
tedious to maintain.
