That only works if the private AS is originating the routes. Since the Private AS's are actually in the middle of the path that command will do nothing.
I have been struck by this issue in the past, and the only way I could resolve it was to change my private AS's to publics, or originate the customers routes.
I got some nasty emails from people telling me I was leaking private AS's into the global bgp table. Not fun!

Subject: [c-nsp] BGP Private-AS removal
Hi,
I have a situation as follows:
C1 --- P1 --- P2 --- P3 --- ISP1 --- ISP2
All routers have eBGP peer relationship were C1 holds public AS, P1 to
P3
holds private AS (each) and ISP1 is my edge router with my public AS.
Configuring remove-private-as on ISP1 wouldn't remove the private-as as it will see it a configuration error due to public-private-public sequence.
Is there any other way to remove the private AS and preserve the AS-Path with only public?
Best Regards,
Techtalm
