This is an IOS / PPP thing. Look at your routing table.

If you really need "self ping" to work with PPPoFR, there are a couple
of workarounds. One is applying the "ppp multilink" command on the
Virtual-Template interface.

Googling for "self ping pppofr" should return some relevant hits.
