I'd have to second this, the 1841 is a pretty good way to go and you can pick them up sec on hand inexpensively.

Non Cisco you could check out Mikrotik if you want some decent features on an extreme budget but in all things, you get what you paid for.  If you need reliability I'd stick with Cisco.
