[c-nsp] Burst Size Parameter

 Hi

I was going through burst size calculation for police command , and i found at most of links where recommendation is to use the bc values as 1.5sec * CIR/8 and Be as twice the bc.

But if you see by giving such a high value of bc & be we are allowing the customer to burst at higer rate and in turn giving him more room for his subscribed CIR .

Example below :-

If let's say we have a E1 ckt which operates at 2 mb/s and we want to restrict the customer bandwidth to 1 mb/s .

With the defined bc and be 187500 bytes 375000 respectively , we are allowing customer to use the link at rate of 1.5mb/s as comitted bandwidth , however his subscribed bandwidth is 1mb/s .

Not able to understood the reason for such a high burst ?? Could some one explains more on same.

Also i saw some of juniper documentation which says or define the burst size in bytes and expressed in 10ms or 25 ms and which in turn never allowed to burst the customer more then his CIR if it's more then CIR then it goes into exceed action catagory.

Thanks
Amit Dhamija
