You could use IP SLAs and tracking.  The tracker can be configured to do 
something like ping the far-end IP address every X seconds.  If that ping 
fails for a specific threshold, any static routes that are configured with 
that tracker enabled will be withdrawn.

This might also depend on the platform you're using.
