Not sure what the current state of the technology is, but in 
general, iSCSI is what you can transport over a WAN out of 
the data centre.

FCoE and friends are best inside the data centre, or over 
DWDM infrastructure over limited span distances.

Someone else can, perhaps, chime in to give more current 
data.
