You may wanna take a look at the 6840-X series [1] as well. Not exactly a metro platform, however it should do just fine for L2/L3VPNs and it matches your other requirements (1/2 RU, 16-40x 10G, some 40G).

Very young platform though (exactly 1 release is available on CCO).
