I've not seen a K version of the cut down -40

That is where I left Cisco, all the licensing overhead that was
supposed to make it more affordable got used to raise the
price of a restricted version, and put unlocking the rest beyond
sense. By the time you need to grow it is cheaper to buy a newer
device than pay to unlock an old device approaching EOL. You've
literally paid for the hardware you are not allowed to use so
it's never felt right either.

Maybe  it makes sense for someone growing fast.
