Bill,

It really depends on which vwic you use.  We have seen degraded audio when
the copper gets too long:

In measurements we took last year:
The old vic-2fxo-m1 had the best long cable performance.  This performed
acceptably up to 5 mi of copper.
The nm-hda and mrp3-8fxo had the worst performance where audio arifacts were
apparent above 3miles.
The new vic2-2fxo and vic2-4fxo are supposed to have improved impedance
matching to accomodate up to 5mi of copper with the same or better voice
quality compared to the vic-2fxo-m1.
