[cisco-voip] Disappearing ring styles

Hi Mike,

3.3(3) first implemented TFTP File caching in memory so it could be the file
is correct on disk but corrupt in TFTP memory.

shot in the dark: TFTP uses UDP. maybe the TFTP server switch port has a
speed/duplex mismatch now after the reboot? A change was made and not
saved?

Possible Troubleshooting:
1. use TFTP from windows cmd line to download the file. This should give an
idea if the TFTP server is serving it up properly.

2. take a sniffer trace from the back of the phone. Use ethereal to save
off the TFTP payload and reconstruct the file. This should give an idea if
ringlist.xml arrives at the phone in its entirety.

This could also be an issue of the .raw files not being served up properly,
in which case you could:
1. get the md5sum of the file on the server.
2. tftp download the file from windows cmd prompt
3. get the md5sum of the downloaded file and compare to orig md5sum.

If all this works, then sounds like the phone is corrupt somehow, maybe try
resetting the phone to factory defaults (under settings), then see if it
comes up with ringtones again.

/Wes

Subject: [cisco-voip] Disappearing ring styles

Running CCM 3.3(3), the original menu of about 30 ring types has
disappeared, replaced with only 2 or 3 types (varying) on some phones, none
(only the default) on others. I can't say when this happened, but it must
have been recent, so I'm reasonably certain it wasn't caused by any
maintenance activity on the CallManagers. Possibly related to widespread
power failures during Hurricane Charley. The ringlist.xml file and the
associated .raw files appear to be OK in the TFTPPath directory on both
CallManagers. Rebooting the phone has no effect. This does not appear to
be the bug described in CSCdw93219; in any event, the associated fix
procedure described in
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/products/sw/voicesw/ps556/products_tech_
note09186a00800b3ecd.shtml
has no effect.

Firmware on my 7940G (which shows only the previously-selected default type)
is:

App Load: P00305000400
Boot load: PC03C300
Version: 5.0(4.0)

Any ideas?
