[cisco-voip] FXS problems and a good book

Thanks for your reply. You folks are awesome.

I plugged an analog handset into one of the FXS ports, and it's *very*
loud. Is there a way to control the volume on these ports? This seems
like a potential source of problems for modem and fax communication.

The 4FXS is in the 2651XM router along with a VWIC-1MFT. The router
does have AIM. The line is not point-to-point, at least not from my
point of view.

The only network-clock command currently in the config is "no
network-clock-participate slot 1". It seems like this might be a
problem as it's turning the clock off on the NM-HD-2V which has the 4fxs
in it. But, if I knew for sure I'd be answering questions on this list
instead of asking them.

Here is what I see from `show diag`:

On the XM and 3700 series , the slips may not be due
to T1 but the clocking configuration on the router.

What other modules do you have in this router (show
diag), do you have a AIM? and what network-clock
commands do you have?

Is this a VWIC-1MFT or VWIC-2MFT? The 2 port VWIC only
has 1 clock chip also so can do line clocking on one
port really only. Port 0/0 is primary by default
though so usually the slips are seen on 0/1 if you
have a 2 porter.

If you have a PRI and a FXS/FXO module on same router,
it is very important the network-clock commands are
set right so the timing is synced for voice traffic
to one clock source across all modules else you
will/may see these slip seconds which cause issues
with FAX and Voice.

Sample network-clock commands:

network-clock-participate wic 0
network-clock-select 1 T1 0/0

See network-clock status:

show network-clock
