Additional vendors: Brix, NetIQ, Packeteer, Prognosis and Qovia. I believe
Intermapper may join the fray soon.
I have used NetIQ and Prognosis for monitoring and reporting on Cisco equipment.
You may contact me offline for comments.
Some requirements you might be interested in asking about:
List of vendors/protocols they support now
List of vendors/protocols they will support in the future
Is it software based or hardware based probe
If hardware probe, what are form factor and connectivity requirements
Is pricing flat, based on number of devices monitored, based on number of
probes, or based on phone count
Multi-level login (phone technician level, sys admin level, etc)
Multi-media alerting (email, pager, phone call, IM, logging, etc)
Do they offer customizable scripts, and is the scripting easy to learn and use
Do they have good documentation and tech support
