[cisco-voip] Global Speed dials

sounds good...

That does bring up one thing--

Do you know of a clear example of how to BAT in a service?
I've written a few I'd like to include like that, but haven't been able to figure out BAT well enough to do it.
My vendor runs BAT, and I've so far not been able to get up on what they're doing and how...
especially for mod'ing existing phones...

Running 4.01, btw..

You could create a user called "global numbers" or something like that.

Login to CCMUser with this account and configure the fast dials and personal directory with the numbers needed.

Create a new IP Phone Service called "Global Directory" or something snazzy that points to Personal Directory. You could create an additional one for fast dials as well. When you create the necessary parameters, hard code in the user and password you used for the "global numbers" user.

Using BAT, you could assign all phones this service.

Couple of things to consider:
Fast dials only gives you 99 numbers.
It's not as fast as a translation pattern, but it would give the option to search.

OR--

You could create a directory using an x.500 ldap server and configure an XML service to access it, but this would in essence duplicate the personal directory above.

so --- can someone educate me?

What are the options for a global speed dial 'catalog'

we have numerous numbers (for State agencies, etc) that many of our schools dial all the time.

Is a translation pattern the only way to do this?

I was hoping for a service on the phones that I could add to, such that it'd also be a lookup thing -- that way people could get a reference of common numbers for use with cell phones too -- Speed dials is part of it, but just the whole concept of a directory of common outside numbers too...

I actually spoke with some internal folks at Cisco about this. They estimated that about 3000 patterns like this would be possible before any noticeable slowdowns would occur.

I should add that this was two years ago, and pre 4.1/4.2/5.0 so things might have changed.
