IPC follows this as well, since i was not able to reprogram an IPC config b/c TFTP was blocked, but it was still coming up. Thanks.

  Behavior is *supposed* to be:

phone accepts TFTP server from one of various methods:
  http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/products/sw/voicesw/ps556/products_administration_guide_chapter09186a00803eda84.html#wp1023019

the phone then acquires it's configuration file from the TFTP server

Now, if the phone can do a successful DNS lookup of the CM servers in the config file, then it is considered a 'good configuration'.

The 'good configuration' is stored in nvram and used if the TFTP server is unreachable at next boot.

6608 does not do this. Not sure if IPC does or not.

Can anyone explain (briefly is fine) the whole concept of how a phone continues to operate when it can't connect to the TFTP/DHCP server after at least one successful configuration?

I had always knew that in some way or another the DHCP settings stuck, but I didn't think it was the same with TFTP. I was racking my head on why changes weren't being applied to an IPC session, and I only stumbled on the status screen to see TFTP failures.

Anyways, just looking for some background.
