Why don't you just copy the files on a server with close proximity and TFTP it from that location. If you have a cluster down there, surely you must have some form of server you can designate to be your TFTP server. Windows? Try Solar Winds TFTP server. If it's a matter of timing out and you have access to the routers/switches/firewalls, surely you can try to do some creative networking to reduce your timing issues. If it were me, I would throw on a TFTP server somewhere in that vicinity for the purpose of that transfer, future transfers, then solely turn it on when necessary.
Heck you can turn any individuals machine into a temporary TFTP server for this purpose as opposed to opening up a TAC and waiting till the face turns blue.
