[cisco-voip] "limit-dn" command

Did the limit-dn command change in some version of IOS?  I had only seen
the limit-dn command have a max of 1-6 and was under the impression that
the command just limited the maximum number of directories on a "single
phone".

In SRST 3.3 or > the limit-dn command has changed to a max of 34 and the
description sounds like that is the maximum number of DN's "overall" that
can register in SRST.

For example, on a 2851 the max-ephones is 96.  However, the max number of
DN's for a 7940 is 34.  Does this mean that only 34 7940's can register? 
It doesn't make any sense.
