Andrew--

Try this.

Do a **1 from the phone. A dialog will appear asking if you want to
delete the phone configuration. Press Yes to clear the complete setting.

If you press  NO, . it will  put you in the phone setting  menu screen,
which also gives  the option in  changing the  passwd.

I had a 7935 with the same problem.  I ended up putting smartnet on it
to RMA it.  Then Wes gave me these instructions.  Give it a try.  Not
sure if there is a difference between the 7935 and 7936
