The Plantronics headsets are not the cheapest, but they hold up better
than most. I have H41N headsets that have been in daily service for 5-6
years. My personal favorite is the H81N because the earpiece is very
adjustable and comfortable to me.
On the other hand, the "VoIP" line of headsets from Plantronics are
mostly wireless headsets. They do not, so far as I can tell, sport any
features beyond wireless headset and maybe remote lifter control.
Nothing specifically "VOIP" about them. Marketing ploy, I say. :)
We have also had pretty good luck with headsets from HelloDirect, but
they are generally speaking not quite so well put together as the
Plantronics and their prices are about the same.
The manager of one of our branches told me that they weren't accepting
the Cisco telephones if they couldn't use their wireless headsets with
them. They are GN Netcom units from HelloDirect, with remote lifters.
They are a small branch and everyone wears many hats, so the manager and
his inside sales guy are the primary telephone answerers. The headset
with remote lifter allows them to answer the phone even if they are
outside loading a customer vehicle. Lucky for me (well, for him too,
because the Cisco phones were going in regardless) they plugged right in
to the 7960.
