I had this problem when I tried to use the Editor for the first time at my new job.  The splash screen would flash for a split second and then terminate.  Turns out I did not have local admin rights on my pc, so, even though the install seemed to go through ok, I didn't have rights to do something necessary to run the program.  I'm not sure if this is valid in your case, but as soon as I was given local admin rights, I uninstalled and reinstalled the editor and it worked fine.
