I believe the other thing you have to worry about is features. I'm not quite sure if all the features that are implemented using SCCP are implemented in SIP (or if they even can be).

Currently the only way to run a SIP image on your phone is to use CM 5.0 or a third party like Asterisks. MGCP is basically used form a VG to the CM. I don't know if you can MGCP to a phone. the nice thing about SIP is that it is basically standards based.

We have a small ip phone shop and all our phones run SCCPxx.x. I've been asked why we don't change the firmware on our phones to SIP. I've been doing some reading on this but theres a few simple things I don't understand. To switch an IP phone from SCCP to SIP or MGCP, can I just apply that firmware or are there other considerations or pre-reqs? Do I need to purchase a different phone that will only run SIP firmware? Is there a comparison sheet out there that shows the pro's and con's for each of these types? I'd love to run SIP firmware only for the ease of reading sniffer traces.
Any comments appreciated.
Thanks,
