If you just want to monitor failover using the Event Monitoring Service then
you can monitor any messages sent by CiscoUnity_Notifier.

Other good Sources to watch are CiscoUnity_Arbiter, CiscoUnity_DSAD,
CiscoUnity_NodeMgr, CiscoUnity_Scheduler, and CiscoUnity_UMR.

This is one of the alerts that gets emailed to me when failover occurs:

Event Type: Information
Event Source: CiscoUnity_Notifier
Event Category: Run
Event ID: 1049
Date: 2007/03/27
Time: 14:39:26
User: N/A
Computer: UNITY1
Description:
The Failover service (AvCsNodeMgr) is deactivating the Notifier on the
Primary server. The partner server UNITY2 is taking over. Notifications and
MWIs will be performed at UNITY2 rather than here.

Are you talking about the Event Monitoring Service in Tools Depot?
What's a good set of things to monitor?
