Also make sure when installing CCM that you use the same local administrator, sa, private password phrase, and dc directory passwords as well as IP, computer name, workgroup, etc. It really is pretty straightforward as Jonathan said. I just recently did a hardware replacement for a couple of clusters. I installed the exact same version of CCM (OS was different for me but worked fine), CCM service release, and BARS (along with all the passwords above being the same as your current system) on the new hardware. Ran the restore from BARS, rebooted and voila, my old configuration was back and everything worked perfectly.

Cisco has done a good job with CCM restores from my experience.

If your backup is good (I would say check the logs, but you can't),
then the restore is easy.

A couple of quick things:

the IP address and hostname MUST be identical or the backup will fail.

Also, you must install the EXACT same CCM version (check your
subscriber), and the same OS version that the backup was done (this
may be optional, but why risk it...), and then you MUST have the exact
same version of BARS.

As long as all of that is the same, you should be fine...
