[cisco-voip] CCM5/6/Express with SIP or SCCP phones?

Thank you Ed for answer.

As far as I know the SIP firmware does not offer any more functionality than the SCCP. Actually I think it has even less functionality as the SCCP firmware.

So, are there any advantages of using Cisco IP phones with SIP firmware with Cisco Communications Manager (express of big)?

Like does it work better behind NAT, better or easier encryption, security, management, ...?

Thank you.

All the best,

   Jozef Janitor

Jozef,

Just from my perspective, we will not be running SIP on endpoints until there is some very compelling reason to switch. Right now we use SCCP and it has all the features we need, and under call manager at least it is tried and true.

Is there anything that SIP does right now on callmanager that SCCP does not do for general end-user phones?

Hello,

I have had bad experiences with SIP firmware on Cisco IP Phones (well, on 3rd party IP PBX), and I think it was already mentioned here in the list that the SIP firmware is a bit "buggy".

But now I am facing a situation where we may have to deploy some Cisco IP phones with SIP firmware with Cisco Unified Communications Manager (full or express). Therefore I would like to ask you a question:

If you are running Cisco Unified Communications Manager 5+ or 6+ or CCM Express 4+:

- Are you using SIP or SCCP firmware on your Cisco IP Phones?

o Why SIP

§ Pros?

§ Cons?

o Why SCPP?

§ Pros?

§ Cons?

Thank you.

All the best,
