Try a factory reset of the phone before declaring it dead.:
7970 Factory Reset
1) Pull power and hold down the # key, plug pwr back in while still
holding down #.
2) When the line keys start "walking" amber you can let go of #.
Then enter this sequence.....3491672850*#

I now have the situation that the line buttons flash in sequence green,
the headset button is green and the mute button is red and that stays so
for hours, is now my phone gone???
Any ideas??

Hi all
I had to reset a 7970 and now it seems, that it hangs somewhere in the
boot sequence. I followed the guideline described in the Administration
Guide for a factory reset.
Now the line buttons flash in sequence green, the headset button is
green and the mute button is red.
Has anyone an idea whats going on with my phone?
