[cisco-voip] Jitter Question

jitter is only audible if it can no longer be compensated through the
playout delay buffer aka de-jitter buffer, so the acceptable jitter
values depend on the jitter buffer used in the different ip telephony
endpoints. there is no connection between acceptable jitter and the
codec used (afaik)
i think Cisco IP Phones use different de-jitter buffers. Some tests i
did indicate that the older models (40/60) use a fixed buffer size of
about 35ms, newer phones seem to be using dynamic buffers and are less
prone to jitter problems...
bottom line: jitter level should not be greater than 30 - 35ms...
unfortunately on a quick search on cisco.com I could not find any docu
to back that value...

Patrick
